Vendor Spotlight: Meet Alisha Miller
Weddings are a great fun! I will happily go on record saying that! Fun to attend and lots of fun to photograph.
Hi! In case we haven’t met, I’m Alisha Miller from the lovely state of Tennessee. It probably comes as no surprise, but I love photography. No, really, I LOVE it! I can’t really say for sure when my love of photography started but I was probably 11 or 12 when I found a point and shoot camera and claimed it as mine. I then proceeded to become that person who takes pictures of everything and is always stopping and holding up the group. I bought my first “big” camera at 14 and to this day I’m still that person that stops to take pictures and is still holding up the group and is the first one to get lost.
I got bit by the wedding photography bug and I got bit hard. There’s something so special about seeing two people start a life together and seeing the excitement, joy and yes, even a few tears. Because no matter how happy you are for your sibling on their wedding, you still are a little sad. I feel so honored that I get to do what I love and capture one of the most important days in life for others. It really is the best job!
Why does photography matter? And do I really need a professional?
Well let’s think about this. What happens after a wedding? Everything gets cleaned up, trash gets thrown away (yes, even all the pretty menus, programs and other things you worked SO hard on. Terrible, right?!), the flowers die, friends and family go back home and life moves on. And what do you have left besides your dress and suit and memories? And the fact you married your favorite person of course?!
Your pictures! And as cheesy as it might sound, these really are the pictures you’ll be showing your children and grandchildren someday. Imagine the fun you and they will have seeing who was at your wedding and what your dress looked like and how happy that day was! I love that I get to preserve these memories for my couples for the rest of their lives!
Obviously I’m going to say that wedding photography is worth it because I’m a photographer. But having someone who has seen multiple wedding days is such a huge benefit! A professional photographer will be able to keep a timeline on track so you won’t be stuck taking photos all day. A professional photographer will also be able to handle unforeseen circumstances such as rain, running out of time and whatever other things that might not go as planned.
Side note, I will always recommend having one professional main shooter and one, maybe two second shooters. The reason for this is that it’s so much less stressful to communicate with one photographer that will know what’s happening the whole time and the main shooter can make sure that everything is captured the way it needs to be. It can easily become stressful for the bride and the photographers if there are multiple ones in charge of small parts of the day and it’s also very easy in those circumstances for details or moments to be missed. I would suggest talking with your photographer and see if they have a certain person that they like to have second shoot with them. Most times they have someone that they work with regularly and work together well with to capture your entire day.
